Why artists need to act like entrepreneurs in order to get interest from the sharks.
Friends, welcome to my shark tank theory. I’ve touched on this many times in keynotes, podcasts and other mediums. It’s extremely relevant and may just help some of you to find and grow your “team”.
Imagine you are on Shark Tank. You’ve got something awesome, game changing, phenomenal, it could change the world. The sharks love it, they love you. Then comes the big question “so what are your sales so far?”
In this case let’s imagine “sales” are milestones relating to your music. These could be:
🎵 1 million TikTok videos
🎵 Charting in 30 countries
🎵 500k monthly listeners on Spotify
🎵 Two sold out tours in your country
🎵 Strong reviews in reputable music publications
Now they are interested! Why? Because sharks (distributors, labels) need something that is already successful on its own but could scale into something bigger. They then tell you how they could help and what they are willing to offer you for a cut of your business.
