Additionally, if you are looking at a return on investment you should not proceed. That is not the point of services like this, it is part of a longterm growth strategy. If you have never made any income as an artist, it would be best to wait until you have released a few songs and started to see some revenue first.
I’ve had a number of people ask me if there is a service where they can just pay a fee and essentially do a “bulk pitch” to multiple independent curators. After some time experimenting on Playlist Push as an artist and now as a curator I feel comfortable writing this short piece and sharing my findings.
Unlike other “pitching” services, Playlist Push works for both the artist and the curator, which makes for more responses for the artist and a little bit of income for the curator.
First, let’s be clear… this is not playola. Many of you are familiar with that dirty word causing artists to have their music removed from streaming services, some even being blacklisted indefinitely.
Playlist Push charges a campaign fee per song and then delivers it to curators via their website. Curators then login (from phone, tablet or pc) and listen to music to consider for their playlists. The best part is that they get paid when they listen and respond, so there is more incentive for them to do so. Curators can earn payment for reviews of their songs, with opportunities for raises based on the performance of their playlist (monthly listeners and followers). Curators’ performance is also measured on detailed feedback (not just saying “sorry, doesn’t fit”), listening to the song in full, and how long a song stays in their playlist.
What’s neat about this is that it is the same amount of clicks for a curator to add your song as it is for them to discard it. The service also makes sure the placement happens in their playlist instantly if they approve, adding the song near the top of the curators playlist. This works so well and allows the curator to continue about their day, instead of the need to remember to add your song when they have time.
If a curator accepts your song you will receive a report and encouragement to share the playlist add on social media. You should totally do this as it tags the curator and could lead to a follow and the beginning of a beautiful relationship. At the very least, it’s nice to say thank you.
