CarPlay Issue with iPhone 15 Models in Some Cars — A Cheap Solution
Now that the excitement for the new iPhone 15 models has settled down, it’s time to focus on one of the main challenges those that upgraded have discovered. Some users have encountered an unexpected hurdle when trying to connect their new iPhones to Apple CarPlay in certain cars. This issue stems from the fact that the latest iPhones feature a USB-C connection, while many cars equipped with wired CarPlay systems come with USB-A connectors.
As an iPhone 15 user facing this connectivity issue, I embarked on a quest to find a solution. I experimented with various cables and adapters in hopes of making the connection work. The frustration of plugging in cable after cable, only to be met with disappointment, was starting to wear me down. It seemed that my cutting-edge iPhone 15 was at odds with my older USB-A-equipped car.
After numerous attempts and a fair share of venting/searching, I stumbled upon a solution that finally worked. This adaptor, that costed less than $10 USD paired with the official Apple USB-C to USB-C cable that came with my new iPhone 15 worked perfectly.
Important/Disclaimer:
While this worked for me, there are no guarantees it may work with your car/vehicle/iPhone/cable combination. It’s worth keeping in mind that stores like Amazon will give the option to return an item if it doesn’t work as expected (which I thankfully was able to do with a few cables this week).
